The Gardens Ice House in Laurel is the largest skating and hockey facility in the DC/Maryland area. The Veteran owned facility is located in the Fairland Regional Park near Laurel, Maryland, two miles from Interstate 95, The Gardens Ice House is a 150,000 sq/ft skating facility in the Mid-Atlantic region. We are open every day of the year. Some of the highlights include 1 seasonal outdoor rink, 1 Olympic-sized rink, and 2 NHL Regulation-sized rinks, one with an 1800 people capacity.

Clai Carr

One of the founders of the Ice House, Clai, was raised in New England and learned to skate on the neighborhood pond in Pound Ridge, New York. Played hockey at Kent School, Kent, CT, Upper Canada College (Toronto, Ontario) and Middlebury College in Vermont. Clai raised three sons all whom have played or continue to play hockey. President of the Howard Huskies in mid-80s for two years and co-founded The Tri- City Eagles in 1993 and co-founded Team Maryland in 2006. Professionally, he was an active real estate developer.
Billy Carr, CRA
General Manager and Vice President
Marketing Director Since 2010. Worked on the team that helped build The Gardens Ice House in 1996. Lived in NYC for 10 years while working in the NYC public school system as a social worker. Lives in Laurel with his two children.

Worked for The Gardens Ice House since 1996 and prior to that for 16 years at Rouse & Associates with a background in accounting. Lives in Baldwin, MD - married for 39 years and has four grown children and two grandsons.
Jon Tippets,CIRM
Manager of Operations
Started working part time at The Gardens Ice House while in high school. After graduating from the University of Maryland, worked for the Washington Capitals for 3 years, then returned to TGIH full time. When not at TGIH Jon enjoys spending time with his wife and children.

General Manager and Co-Founder- Retired
Graduate of Bowling Green College. Business partner and general manager of The Gardens Ice House since it opened in 1996. Lives in Columbia, MD. Congratulations on your retirement, Tom!
Nikki goldschmitt

Nikki has been with the Gardens Ice
House since January of 1999. Nikki has
a Bachelors’ of Science Degree
from Towson University where she
majored in Sports Management. She
also has a minor in Business
Administration as well as Art.
IRENE Hudson

Started working full-time at The Gardens Ice House in April 2005. Irene is the Administrative Manager/Learn to Play Hockey Administrator. Enjoys spending time with her two sons when not at work. Her favorite hockey player is Braden Holtby.

Steve is a lifelong Redskins fan. He has worked at The Gardens Ice House for 9 years. Started as a scorekeeper and has worked his way up to supervisor. He lives in Laurel.

While overseeing our Learn to Skate program Greg has rejuvenated and transformed it into one of the premier Learn to Skate programs in the area.

Fabian began working as a GSA at The Gardens Ice House over 14 years ago. Lives locally with his wife and two kids. Enjoys driving the Zamboni and his frequent interactions with all the customers at The Gardens Ice House.
