Programs - Figure Skating - ISI Team

The Gardens ISI Team is a non-profit organization, located in Laurel, Maryland, for skaters of all ages and level who enjoy the recreation, fun, and achievement of figure skating. The team follows the guidelines of the Ice Skating Institute (ISI), which is dedicated to providing quality ice skating programs for recreational skaters.

ISI TeamThe Gardens Learn-to-Skate program is approved by ISI; its skating levels and certifications are recognized by the ISI. Any skater at any level in the Learn-to-Skate program is eligible and welcome to join the Gardens ISI Team.

Your first question may be "what does the ISI Team do?" The Gardens ISI Skating Team provides for its members:

  • An organization by which skaters can complete in ISI-sanctioned skating competitions throughout the area. Most competitions include events from the Tot level through Freestyle, so skaters at any level can compete. The ISI team also participates in team events, which are ideal ways for first time competitors to ease into competitions.
  • Social gatherings with other skaters and their families. We have potlucks twice a year as well as sleepover at the rink; each event includes ice time reserved just for team members.
  • Ice time reserved just for ISI members, resulting in less crowed opportunities to skate and practice.

Your obligations are few - any member only competes in those events he or she wants to, or none at all. The Team does conduct fundraisers each season. As a member, you are expected to participate in these events. We rely on the income from fundraising to purchase ice time for our social events and for practice sessions.

Joining the team is easy - a skater must join the ISI ($10.00 annual dues) and the team ($25.00 annual dues, $5.00 each for additional family members).
